This guide reviews the adapted questions on this website. Wording and answers can differ from the original paper.
The passage investigates unexpected failures of toughened glass, including nickel sulphide inclusions and disagreement over how common failures are. It combines a manufacturing explanation with expert comments, so you need to track both the physical sequence and who makes each claim.

How to approach this passage
- Make a name-and-view list for Brian Waldron, Trevor Ford, Graham Dodd and John Barry. A quotation's speaker matters when several people discuss the same defect.
- For the summary, follow heating and cooling in order. The outer and inner layers do not change temperature or contract at the same moment.
- Check whether a gap requires an adjective, adverb or verb before choosing its letter. A word can be relevant to glass but grammatically impossible in that position.
- For the final statements, distinguish agreement over the cause of one accident from disagreement over the overall frequency of failures. Evidence about one incident does not establish the quality of documentation across the industry.
Worked review example
The summary asks about the relative sharpness of broken fragments. Identify the comparison with ordinary glass before choosing from the word list. The answer must fit the sentence about fragment shape, rather than the separate discussion of how suddenly a pane can shatter.
Common mistake to avoid
Matching-person options include plausible comments that belong to somebody else. Verify attribution instead of choosing the first relevant-sounding opinion.
