Answer key and explanations from the book
Section 1
- B. Senior Card: "Applications must be made at one of our Travel Centres". The Jobseeker Card can be applied for "online or at a Travel Centre".
- C. The Jobseeker Card "is valid for three months". The others last one, three or five years.
- D. "The card allows one companion to travel free of charge".
- A. Student Card: "a letter from your place of study". The Jobseeker letter comes from the Employment Service.
- D. Companion Card: "must be renewed every three years."
- B. Free travel "on weekdays after 9.30 am and at any time at weekends"; before 9.30 holders pay half fare. The Companion Card text does not limit the times of free travel.
- B. "The card is also accepted on trains to the neighbouring Westvale region." The introduction says concession cards cannot be used beyond the region "unless stated below".
- TRUE. "When your order is ready… you will receive an email with a six-digit code and a QR code."
- TRUE. "most shops in the centre open at 9 am, the lockers are available from 6 am".
- FALSE. "Your order will be kept in the locker for three days."
- NOT GIVEN. Orders are usually ready by the next day, but nothing is said about when most customers collect them.
- FALSE. Orders of $30 or less carry "a charge of $2".
- TRUE. "you can forward the email to a family member or friend, who can then use the code to open the locker."
- NOT GIVEN. The desk is open "between 9 am and 6 pm", but the text does not say which days.
Section 2
- safety training. "complete our safety training… You must complete the training before you are allowed to work in these areas."
- learning log. "You will also be given a learning log".
- training. "to agree any further training you need". Extra paraphrases further.

- A. Checking "the spelling and grammar of internal emails" is allowed freely.
- C. "You must never enter personal information about customers… such as names, addresses… into any AI tool, including the approved one."
- B. Packaging text is seen by people outside the company, so it needs the line manager's agreement. The product already exists, so the ban on details of products "that have not yet been launched" does not apply.
- C. "Personal AI accounts, such as free online chatbots, must not be used on company computers… even for tasks that would be allowed on the approved tool."
- A. "producing a short summary of notes from an internal meeting" is allowed freely.

- F. "simulators, similar to those used to train pilots".
- D. The jib turns freely "so that the jib always points in the direction that puts the least pressure on the structure."
- FALSE. "Some newer cranes are fitted with small lifts, but these are still uncommon."
- TRUE. "The further a load is from the mast, the less the crane can safely lift".
- FALSE. "the safe limit is often much lower for loads with a large flat surface, such as wall panels or sheets of glass".
- NOT GIVEN. "Many begin by working as signallers or operating smaller cranes", but the text does not say whether this is true of most operators.
- TRUE. Hand signals are "an agreed set… which every operator learns during training."

- swing. "the ability to judge how a load will swing".
- back. "which can cause pain in the neck and back".
